Buenos Aires City Mayor Jorge Macri has voiced support for an electoral alliance between his PRO party and La Libertad Avanza in next year\u2019s 2027 general election.<\/p>\n
During an interview with the LN+ news channel, Macri highlighted the impressive results the two parties achieved in last year\u2019s October midterm elections and indicated he would back another alliance between the two right-wing parties.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a long way to go. We did very well in [last] October when we were together \u2013 people rewarded us. We didn\u2019t do well when we ran separately. Time will tell,\u201d Mayor Macri said in an interview with journalist Luis Majul.<\/p>\n
The mayor, whose post will be up for re-election next year, praised his cousin, ex-president and PRO founder Mauricio Macri, and said his party is firmly behind President Javier Milei\u2019s government.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s important what Mauricio Macri is doing, which is revitalising PRO, bringing us together. This is a first step in that direction: consolidating our forces, our people, making our contribution. We want the government to succeed,\u201d he added, referring to his cousin\u2019s current role.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead to the 2027 presidential elections, Macri said discussions remain open. He neither confirmed nor ruled out the possibility of PRO fielding its own presidential candidate.<\/p>\n
Mayor Macri could face a challenge from a La Libertad Avanza candidate in next year\u2019s City election. Rumoured candidates include Cabinet Chief Manuel Adorni and Senator Patricia Bullrich, the former national security minister who jumped ship in 2025, switching from PRO to Milei\u2019s La Libertad Avanza party.<\/p>\n
Bullrich had previously run against Milei in the presidential election.<\/p>\n
