Three people were injured on Friday after a mail package exploded at the Escuela Superior de Gendarmer\u00eda in the San Nicol\u00e1s neighbourhood of Buenos Aires.<\/p>\n
Two of the injured were taken to the nearby Hospital Argerich with burns, but their lives are not in danger, according to a preliminary report from the Buenos Aires City Police.<\/p>\n
Another individual was treated for smoke inhalation.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred in the early afternoon local time at Avenida Paseo Col\u00f3n 533, a building located around 800 metres from the Casa Rosada.<\/p>\n
According to the police report, Gendarmerie personnel \u2013 also known as Border Guards \u2013 were handling a parcel that had been received four months earlier when the explosion occurred.<\/p>\n
Firefighters and ambulances arrived at the scene minutes later.<\/p>\n
After the injured were taken away, police cordoned off the area, shutting down traffic and evacuating the building and others on the same block, local media reported.<\/p>\n
Officers from the bomb squad were working at the scene. National Security Minister Alejandra Monteoliva was also present, though she left minutes later without answering questions.<\/p>\n
Local reports said the supposed recipient of the parcel was a former director of the school who retired four months ago. He visited the school Friday to collect the parcel that detonated.\u00a0<\/p>\n
